Branching

Branching — which requires the Advanced Workflow Module — grants users the ability to build workflows that allow for the possibility choosing different steps based on user selection or through DocStar selecting a branch based on evaluating a condition.

User Selection Branching

Using Manual branching, users are prompted with two choices in workflow to determine the path of the Workflow:

  • Note that this requires the “Branch Mode” option to be set to “User Selection”.  
  • The label determines the text that will be placed on the buttons for users to select the branch.
  • The “Next Step” dropdown is where you will declare which step the Workflow will take. You may also add a new step by clicking on the plus icon.
  • The Description field is reserved for comments visible only to Workflow Designers.

Automatic Branching

Using Automatic Branching requires the evaluation of a branch condition. In many cases this is based on a True/False evaluation:

Note that this requires the “Branch Mode” option to be set to “Automatic”.The Workflow will proceed on the first True condition. When

  • The user will not see a button to choose the path and the Workflow will proceed to the first step that satisfies a true condition.
  • Not creating a path for a branch condition can result in an exception state.

  • The Description field is reserved for comments visible only to Workflow Designers.
